Hanging Chad
by William Breslow
Created shortly after the 2000 presidential election, Hanging Chad combines circular steel and stainless steel plates. Some are bent into gentle curves and all are welded together to form a larger, interlocked and gentle curve designed to feature an off-setting shape in its center.
Each plate has a different finish of either reflective chrome paint or black enamel paint or the original highly polished stainless. Some of the circular elements have different paint finishes on each side.
Hanging from the uppermost circle is a three-dimensional squared/triangle "chad" of highly polished, interlocking stainless steel plates.
The chad is free to move with the wind.
The entire piece is pole mounted and installed in a natural rock.
